A short guide to receiving free push notifications via ntfy.sh.
What is ntfy?
ntfy is a free, open-source app and service that delivers push notifications to your phone. You choose a "topic" name (like a channel). When we find a table slot for you, we send a message to that topic and the ntfy app on your phone shows the notification—no SMS fees, no account with us beyond your topic name.
We use ntfy because it’s free and reliable. You can get as many alerts as you want without paying per notification, and everything stays on your device and the public ntfy.sh service.
How to set it up
- Download the ntfy app on your phone (iOS or Android) from the app store, or use the ntfy.sh website in your browser.
- In the app, create or subscribe to a topic. Pick a name only you know (e.g. "my-oktoberfest-alerts"). The app will show this as a "topic".
- Enter that exact topic name in our notification settings when you create or edit an alert.
- When we find available slots, we’ll send a push to your topic and you’ll get the notification on your phone.
